Wedding Dress Fitting Checklist: What to Check

Key facts

  • Confirm the garment, fitter and items to bring.
  • Bring the planned shoes and relevant accessories.
  • Check sitting, walking and required movements.

Confirm the appointment and garment

Ask which dress will be available: the actual piece, a sample or another size. Confirm whether the person doing alterations will attend and what to bring. A first style appointment and a final fit check have different purposes, so tell the shop what you need to resolve.

Bring the planned shoes and any relevant underlayers or accessories requested by the fitter. If an item is undecided, state that clearly. Changing shoes or styling later may affect the assessment, so ask which decisions need to be final before adjustments are approved.

Check fit through the movements of your day

Stand naturally and describe any tightness, slipping or restriction. With the fitter’s guidance, sit, walk and try the movements relevant to your celebration. Do not judge only the still pose in the mirror. Consider reaching for a greeting, stepping into transport and managing the dress on stairs.

Ask how to handle the train and whether a fastening or other arrangement is proposed for moving around. Have the fitter demonstrate any special closure. Confirm how the intended length works with the chosen shoes rather than copying a generic hem rule.

Dress fitting review

Check each item as you complete it. Add it to your notes app or keep your progress in Favorites.

Review your coverage and styling preferences

Discuss neckline, sleeves and any added lining or coverage you want. If the look includes a hijab or another headpiece, check the planned arrangement with the dress. These are personal choices; ask what is feasible for the actual garment and, if rented, what the shop permits.

Check how the veil, jewellery and other accessories interact with the neckline and closures. Keep photos of agreed details only with the shop’s permission and without including others in the fitting room. A small record can help you remember the approved version.

Record changes and follow-up

Ask the fitter to distinguish confirmed alterations from items still under discussion. Record the cost, approval deadline and next fitting. Do not approve a change simply because it can be pinned temporarily; ask whether and how the tailor can complete it on the garment.

At the next appointment, revisit the agreed issues before adding new ones. If a change remains unresolved, ask for the plan and completion date before collection. Confirm whether a final check is available and who to contact afterward.

Prepare for collection

Confirm that the dress and included accessories will be ready on the agreed date. Request handling and packing instructions, and arrange help for dressing if needed. Discover shops through Farhetna and verify fittings and alteration services directly.
